Cordillera Vilcanota

Naturalist inventory of an area of Polylepis forest, a rare and threatened natural environment, in the Vilcanota Mountain Range (Cuzco department, Peru).

DETAILS .

  • Participants: Fabrice Schmitt, Estelle Schmitt, Fabien Sané, Bruce Ronchi

  • Partners: Ecoan association, Museum of Natural History of Cuzco, Défi Jeune grant, Sight of Nature (Optician: donation of binoculars to Ecoan)

  • Main results: discovery of a new Polylepis forest and wildlife inventory allowing the location of a new site of Royal Cinclodes, a bird classified as Critically Endangered in the IUCN Red List.

  • Follow-up: the data collected was used by the Ecoan association to implement conservation actions in the Vilcanota mountain range.

  • Communication: Fabien's conference at the interregional ornithology conference of Alsace Lorraine and at the Chapelle Saint Valaire; regional press articles.
